OTDCheck collects minimal personal information. When you use our VIN check tool or API, we may collect:

• VIN numbers you search (to provide results and improve our service)
• IP address and basic browser information (for security and rate limiting)
• Email address (only if you create an API account)

How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to provide VIN lookup results, prevent abuse, improve data quality, and communicate about your API account if applicable. We do not sell personal information to third parties.

Data We Collect About Vehicles and Dealers

OTDCheck collects publicly available vehicle listing data from dealer websites and automotive marketplaces. This includes vehicle prices, VINs, dealer names, and listing details. This data is collected from public-facing web pages in compliance with applicable law.

Chrome Extension

The OTDCheck Chrome Extension detects VINs on car listing websites you visit (Craigslist, Cars.com, AutoTrader, CarGurus, Carvana, TrueCar, and dealer websites) to show you vehicle data. The extension:

• Reads page content only to find 17-character VIN patterns — no other page data is collected or transmitted
• Sends detected VINs to the OTDCheck API to retrieve vehicle data (fair price, recalls, title status, dealer grade)
• Caches VIN lookups locally in your browser (IndexedDB) for 24 hours to reduce API calls
• Stores your settings, saved VINs, and login credentials locally in Chrome storage — never on our servers
• Contains clearly labeled affiliate links to vehicle history report providers (e.g., ClearVin, VinSpy). You must click these links voluntarily — no affiliate cookies or tracking are applied without your action
• Does not track your browsing history, inject ads, or modify page content beyond the floating VIN badge

OTDCheck may earn a commission when you purchase vehicle history reports through links in our extension or website. These links are clearly labeled. Affiliate relationships do not influence our vehicle data, pricing analysis, or recommendations.

Cookies

We use essential cookies for site functionality. We do not use tracking cookies or share cookie data with advertisers.
